Wigtown
Description
Wigwam® Holidays Wigtown sits in rural countryside in the south west of Scotland on a busy beef and sheep farm in Dumfries and Galloway. The small and friendly glamping site is open all year round and has six wooden glamping pods, all with en-suite toilet and shower facilities. The Running Water Deluxe cabins sleep up to 4 people, while the Wigwam® Accessible Lodge sleeps up to 5. It also comes with its own luxury hot tub for extra relaxation and indulgence.
Wheelchair users or those with mobility issues can also enjoy a glamping break in the Wigwam® Lodge. This fully accessible cabin is fully adapted to category 3 disabled regulations.
If you are after calm and relaxation, this is the glamping site for you. The nearest village, Barrachan, is five miles from the farm. Far from major tourist towns and attractions, there are beautiful, uninterrupted countryside views all around.
Wigtown – officially recognised as Scotland’s National Book Town – hosts an annual book festival and has plenty of interesting shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants to visit. The B7005 will take you from Wigwam® Holidays Wigtown to Wigtown in a little under 20 minutes. Also in the region is the lush Galloway Forest which boasts beautiful nature trails and wildlife walks and wears its designation as the first Dark Sky park outside of the USA with pride.
The Galloway Hills are a must for hill walkers, climbers and trekkers alike. Wide moors, lochs, rivers and hills make for interesting terrain to hike over and offer enough variety to be enjoyable for all ability levels and interests. There’s also a good range of wildlife to spot along the way.
Drive another two miles beyond Wigtown and you’ll make it to Galloway Forest Park, boasting an awe-inspiring 150,000 acres of forest. Criss-crossing across the park you’ll find treks and trails for hikers and cyclists at every experience level. Avid cyclists will likely make a beeline to the popular 7 Stanes mountain biking centre at Glentress.
Day trips to the Cream o’Galloway Ice Cream Farm or the Cocoa Bean Co. chocolate factory are perfect for family days out, while thrill-seekers will have a plenty to keep them busy at the Laggan Outdoor Centre which boasts one of Europe’s longest zip wires.
Beachcombers can wander along the curved Auchenmalg beach which is another short drive from the glamping site. This quiet bay sits in front of the Cock Inn – Scotland’s second oldest pub, serving food and drink throughout the day.
On days where you don’t want to venture too far, there are direct access paths to forest walks, trails and burns from the site. Each of the cabins have both outdoor and indoor dining tables as well as a personal BBQ and firepit so you can enjoy the setting sun from your own dining area while cooking up a feast with family or friends.
