Wigwam® Holidays Portree is situated in the awe inspiring landscape of Scotland's most famous Island - Skye. Just driving to the site is an experience in itself. Moving past lochs, forests, rivers and tundra. Up and down mountains as you make your way north and finally, across the bridge into the promised land of Skye. The site enjoys a central location on the Island, right next to its largest town and namesake, Portree. It is a peaceful and comfortable shelter amidst the drama and spectacle of the landscape that surrounds it. Lush green grass provides a natural carpet for kids to play on and the Wigwam® cabins are a cosy safehaven should the weather try to match the drama of the mountains. 

It's not hard to get excited about the beauty and wonder of this incredible island. Skye has long been a place for those looking for adventure and excitement. There is just so much to do and see. Why not go for a walk and swim in the fairy pools at the foot of the Black Cuillin mountains by Glenbrittle. Embrace the Scottish temperature and jump into the blue and green waters, swimming with the mystical fairies that bring so many people here every year. You might see more than fairy’s here too as Glenbrittle is home to a range of exciting wildlife including red deer, ravens, oystercatchers and swallows. Bring your binoculars, swimming trunks and fairy glasses and you’ll be able to get the most out of this beautiful Skye glen. 

Skye is all about the outdoors. There are so many incredible landscapes on this island that you simply have to bear witness to them. ‘The Old Man of Storr’ is one of the most breathtaking walks the island has to offer and is just a 5 minute drive from Wigwam® Holidays Portree. There is a 3.8km path that takes you about and down the Storr and shouldn’t take much longer than an hour and 15 minutes to complete. If you have a clear day, you could walk up to see the sun setting over the dramatic Skye landscape and into the Atlantic ocean beyond, a scene you’ll be unlikely to forget. 

For some local history, Dunvegan Castle and Gardens is a 40 minute drive away from the site and a great place to learn about the history and legends of the island's clan history. Situated right by the sea and surrounded by trees, Dunvegan castle is a beautiful site and still home to the Macleods making it the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland. It has a fascinating history and today functions as a visitor centre with regular events, a cafe and stunning gardens to walk around and explore.
