Glamping at the Isle of Eigg Wigwam® is a wonderful way to connect with this remarkable Hebridean island.
Three warm and welcoming wooden Wigwam® cabins sit on a grassy nook above the Galmisdale Bay. The cabins are lovely and warm - insulated and double glazed throughout, with electricity and heating. Each cabin has an outdoor dining area and firepit and has a panoramic view across the little harbour and out to sea.
The cabins are situated within easy reach of the communal washing and bathroom block and are kitted out with all the essentials for a lovely glamping break: luxury mattresses, curtains at the window and a kettle for that much-needed morning brew! Don’t forget to bring bedding and basic cooking equipment so you can rustle up a tasty breakfast to feast upon while enjoying the cabin’s incredible view.
Getting to Eigg is an adventure in itself! You can take the ferry from Mallaig throughout the year, and it’s also possible to get a ferry from Arisaig in the summer months. The island is small, so there are only a limited number of holiday accommodation options available at any given time. No cars are allowed on the island (besides those used by the residents), so visitors are at the mercy of locals for lifts. The cabins are very close to the main pier, making their location absolutely perfect as you can walk right off the ferry and straight into your glamping pod!
The island is small enough to explore every nook and cranny while you’re glamping on Eigg. If you’re spending time on one of the beaches, such as Laig Bay, it’s worth hiring a kayak to get out on the water - these are available from Eigg Adventures.
There’s nothing better than finding a quiet spot, leaning back and watching the eagles and other sea birds glide and swoop above you. You can also hire bikes for exploring the island by land - Eigg is the perfect island for cycling as the roads are quiet and almost always lead somewhere beautiful.
If you fancy a brew that doesn’t require a kettle, pop into the nearby Laig Bay Brewing Company. They have a wide range of beers available throughout the year, with names as wonderful as they taste. Sample their “Independence! IPA”, “Five Pennies Pilsner” and “I am the Eiggman” while enjoying some local banter and storytelling.
Once you’ve exhausted yourself with outdoor activities and had one or two brews too many, you might be ready for some rest and relaxation. Fortunately the island has a mobile massage therapist who is happy to treat visitors in their holiday accommodation
It’s always wonderful glamping on small sites, especially if you are interested in sustainability and supporting independent business. When you book a glamping break at the Isle of Eigg Wigwams® you don’t just contribute to local business - you contribute to the whole island!
Bought out by the whole community in 1997, the glamping pods are owned by the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust. This means that your holiday money goes back into the island to strengthen facilities and amenities for the islanders and visitors just like you! feel-good glamping holiday that nourishes your spirit and gives back to the community - what could be better than that?
