Hilly Cow Wigwams®

The Hilly Cow Wigwams® glamping site is located just outside Edinburgh, making this a great location to experience the many attractions that the Scottish capital has to offer while still being able to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. The historic city of Edinburgh is often regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and its surrounding countryside is equally stunning. Rolling hills, forests and farmland make the Lothian countryside well worth a visit even if you’re not venturing out into the city.

Perhaps the most obvious and well-known local attraction is Edinburgh Castle. Perched atop of an old volcano, the castle makes for a dramatic sight visible from every direction in the city centre. Ancient towers and huge stone walls fall into volcanic rock, forming the most prominent feature in the classic Edinburgh skyline. It’s no surprise that the Scots are so proud of this landmark.

With evidence of a settlement since the second century AD and due to playing such an important part in the nation’s history, Edinburgh Castle is a fascinating and enlightening place to visit. Tours run throughout the day and tickets to visit are available to purchase both online before your visit and at the entrance to the castle.

There are also a number of sightseeing tours taking you to different parts of the city and Scotland as a whole that start in the city centre. You can take a day trip to the Scottish Highlands while learning about its sworded and conflicted past or take a walking tour through Edinburgh's many dungeons and vaults. Alternatively, you could always enjoy the many flavours of Scottish whisky after you take in the city sights at one of Edinburgh’s many whisky bars or the Scottish Whisky Experience on the Royal Mile.

If you fancy doing something a bit more adventures but still want to see the city, Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh's inner-city mountain, is about a 45-minute drive away from your glamping site. Take your walking boots and a packed lunch and experience the incredible view from its summit, overlooking the whole city, including the bridges over the Firth of Forth and beyond.

Another great walking destination is the Pentland Hills. These are about half an hour’s drive from the site depending on where you park and also offer fantastic views over the capital as well as the magnificent Pentlands themselves. These hills are also home to Europe's second-largest dry ski slope, so if you’re up for a thrill or want to learn how to ski, take a visit to the Hillend Ski Centre.

Of course, you don't need to go anywhere to have a great stay at Hilly Cow Wigwams®. With lots of space for kids to run around, beautiful countryside to admire, a firepit to keep you warm and to help you cook up delicious meals, you’ll have all you need right on your doorstep.
